During April’s Adult Makers DIY program, our patrons made felt succulents. By popular demand, here are the project’s instructions.
- Felt Squares (6” x 6” pieces work great)
- Hot Glue Gun with Glue
- Pastel Chalks (Optional)
Step 1. Using the template (Download Succulent Template here) cut out the pieces of felt. When you print the template make sure you choose actual size instead of fit for print or your pieces will be very large. You should have 3 sizes of petals. Note: If you wish to use chalk pastels color the felt before gluing.
Step 2. Take one of the smallest petals and place a bead of hot glue near the bottom. Pinch it together until the glue cools. Use a low temp glue gun for the best results (and safety!). Starting with the smallest petals build up your succulent and keep petals evenly spaced. When you run out of the smallest petals go to the medium petals. Continue building up your succulent. Finally use the larger petals and finish the last layers.
Your finished design can be used in many different ways. For example, we finished our project by gluing them into mini clay pots.
